A "Tele-Jazz" upgrade will greatly expand the tonal range and versatility of your J-Bass, without any modifications or fitting required.
Version 1: "Volume - Volume - ToneStyler" plus 4-way Telecaster pickup selector switch
Fender J-Bass "Deluxe" stacked volume controls perform just like the traditional pair of pickup volume knobs on Fender Jazz Basses. The upper small knob is the neck pickup's volume, and the lower ring knob is the bridge pickup's volume.
The Oak Grigsby 4-way Telecaster pickup selector switch allows instant changes between the soloed neck pickup, both in series, both in parallel, and the soloed bridge pickup. Each pickup's loudness and your favorite blends can be pre-set using the stacked volume knobs. In series mode, the upper small knob becomes the master volume.
Designed specifically for dual-volume pot basses, the ToneStyler BASS DUO SIX optimally-controls each pickup "pre-volume" with two electrically-independent and contrasting EQ circuits, one for each pickup. A standard Fender J-Bass knob controls both pickups at the same time. In ToneStyler switch positions #1 - #5, the neck pickup's rolloff frequency begins about one octave lower than the bridge pickup's rolloff frequency. This voicing difference allows balanced pickup loudness in each ToneStyler switch position. At full clockwise switch position #6, the player's choice between brighter "true bypass" vs cooler "virtual tone pot loading" tonalities for each pickup is made during installation. Version 2: "Master Volume - Tone - ToneStyler" plus 4-way Telecaster pickup selector switch
The stacked knobs provide two controls in the space of one. The small upper knob is the master volume, and the lower ring knob is a traditional master tone control fitted with a reissue "Orange Drop" .047µF capacitor. This arrangement is similar to the stacked "volume/tone" knobs on Fender's first J-Bass. The third ToneStyler single knob can be used separately or along with the standard tone control's ring knob.
The 4-way pickup selector switch allows instant changes between the soloed neck pickup, both in series, both in parallel, and the soloed bridge pickup.
The "Tele-Jazz" version 2 assembly may be configured with either a ToneStyler BASS TEN or a BASS SIX.
